Bath panels: make the right choice
The bath panel or bathtub covering is designed to hide the unsightly but functional elements of the installation. Indeed, once the equipment is installed, the bathroom looks like a real construction site with visible plumbing, rough flooring, drainage, etc.
The bath panel or bathtub covering primarily serves an aesthetic function. It also helps to improve the user's comfort by slowing down the heat loss from the bathwater. This accessory is intended for models with a visible tub and is used to conceal:
- the drainage system;
- the piping;
- the rough floor;
- the sides and legs of the bathtub.
This element comes in three versions:
- the standard model has one to three sides and can be glued to a wall or corner;
- the curved covering is specially designed to fit the shapes of a round or corner bathtub;
- the full panel is intended for freestanding bathtubs. It covers the tub on all sides. The fixtures can be integrated into the accessory for those who prefer vertical shower columns.
The bath panel or bathtub covering can be made of:
- drywall (also known under the name BA13), the most common due to its practicality and reasonable cost, easy to cut and install, but must always be covered with paint, plaster, or tiles;
- plywood, inexpensive and fairly strong, allows for the application of paint, plaster, or tiles, but must be waterproofed to enhance its resistance to runoff and the moisture prevalent in the bathroom;
- aerated concrete, solid and light, sold in blocks easy to cut and join (requires a special adhesive);
- paneling: wooden models will add some warmth and an exotic touch to the bathroom. However, the material must be rot-proof and waterproof to withstand the conditions of use (humidity, water runoff, heat, etc.). PVC and synthetic paneling are more economical alternatives. However, it is strongly recommended to avoid the cheapest options, as they are often hollow and sensitive to impacts.
The bath panel or bathtub covering is chosen based on the installed sanitary ware and the desired decor ambiance in the bathroom. This element is available in do-it-yourself or ready-to-install versions. For the latter, it is important to check the product's compatibility with the bathtub (dimensions, capacity, shape, and design) when purchasing.
