A light strip is useful for optimizing the lighting of a home, office, or warehouse. Waterproof models are essential to prevent accidents in damp rooms such as the kitchen or bathroom. They vary in length, type of luminaire, but also in lifespan.
Waterproof light strips differ according to the type of lamp used.
- Some models are equipped with fluorescent lamps. These contain a mixture of argon gas and mercury at low pressure.
- Others are equipped with LED tubes, appreciated for their low energy consumption and their lifespan, which can exceed 50,000 hours.
Two configurations are possible for waterproof lighting.
- Some models come in the form of waterproof casings specially designed to host one or two LED tubes. This type of luminaire is appreciated for its quite low maintenance cost. Indeed, it is enough to replace the LED tubes as needed (end of life, if the user needs a higher color temperature, etc.).
- Others feature an integrated LED circuit. They have the advantage of consuming less energy. This type of lighting is suitable for intensive use.
Certain parameters should be considered when choosing a light strip or waterproof luminaire.
- The diameter of the LED tubes differs from one casing to another. While some models are designed to accommodate T5 tubes (Ø16 mm), others are suitable for T8 (Ø26 mm) or T12 (Ø38 mm).
- The type of socket is also to be verified. Most waterproof luminaires are equipped with tubes with a G13 base.
- The length of the tube varies according to its use. While models from 50 cm to 100 cm are suitable for a bathroom mirror, versions from 120 cm to 150 cm are more appropriate for a kitchen, office, or workshop.
- Some models are extra-flat to optimize aesthetics.
The color temperature should be adapted to the room to optimize the visual comfort of the users:
- Cool white (5,500 K to 6,000 K) is suitable for technical areas such as workshops or the garage;
- Neutral white (4,000 K to 5,000 K) is suitable for rooms requiring bright light such as the bathroom or kitchen;
- Warm white (2,700 K to 3,000 K) is preferable for illuminating the bathroom mirror.
Whichever lighting you choose, it is advisable to check its IP rating to ensure its waterproofness.
