In general, the push mower is favored by people keen on exercise and wanting to take care of their lawn. It is often recommended for working on areas smaller than 200 m², but can be used on larger surfaces depending on its cutting width and the user.
Sturdy, compact and lightweight, the push mower is particularly suitable for:
- those on a budget;
- small areas, but can also be used on larger areas depending on the user's physical condition;
- people who can regularly maintain their lawn, as a neglected lawn left for weeks is very difficult to mow manually.
This equipment has a relatively simple design and is very easy to use. It consists of:
- a handlebar, often adjustable in height;
- a removable collection basket;
- two wheels, the larger they are, the better they protect the lawn;
- a helical blade driven by the wheels that cuts the grass.
Silent and eco-friendly, a good push mower is defined by:
- a significant cutting width;
- an efficient cutting system, with centralized adjustment;
- precisely sharpened, robust blades with a long lifespan;
- consistent mowing results;
- adjustable cutting positions (variable cutting heights);
- the comfort level of the handlebar, preferably height-adjustable;
- ease of storage;
- the practicality of the collection basket (volume, removable or not, etc.).
The push mower requires no particular maintenance and is very convenient in the long term. It simply needs:
- to be cleaned with a water jet from the garden hose to remove grass clippings stuck to the blades;
- to regularly lubricate the mechanical parts following the manufacturers' recommendations;
- to occasionally check the condition of the blades and sharpen them if necessary (this operation may require the advice and intervention of a professional);
- to refer to the user manual for additional maintenance required by certain models (checking and replacing bearings, verifying integrated safety systems, etc.).
The cutting width is one of the main criteria to consider when choosing a mower. In general, a tool with a large cutting width can regularly maintain up to 500 m² (or more, depending on the user's physical condition). Additionally, it is a fun and useful way to regularly exercise.
