The LED bulb is the leader in modern and ecological lighting. It is popular for its long lifespan, its low consumption, and the variety of lighting options it offers. Today, LED technology is available in several forms: bulbs, spots, wall lights, projectors, etc. This wide range allows for use both indoors and outdoors. However, making the right choice of LED lighting is important to fully enjoy the benefits of this technology.
LED bulbs come in several bases:
- E27 for main lighting, particularly suitable for living spaces;
- E14 for office lighting or bedside lamps.
If these two bases are screw-in types, others, such as B22 and GU10, operate differently. To install them, you need to press them lightly before turning them half or a quarter turn. Furthermore, pin bases are available under the references MR16, R7s, G9, G24, GU4, and GU3.
The angle of illumination is another point to consider. While a 360° luminaire is more practical for main lighting, a 90° angle will suffice for a recessed spot. The luminous flux is also important to consider. Measured in Lumens or lm, it expresses the amount of light projected.
- for a mood light, 500 lm will be enough to set up a cocooning atmosphere;
- forstronger light, 600 to 700 lm will be suitable;
- for a ceiling light, 1,000 to 1,500 lm are recommended.
Luminous efficacy, measured in lux or lum/m², is another criterion that affects lighting comfort. A 400 lux bulb is recommended in a living room, 80 to 100 lux in a corridor, and 200 lux in a bathroom. As for workspaces, the level of light output is to be defined according to the tasks. It varies from 200 to 900 lux. LED technology also gives the option to choose between different color temperatures: warm white, neutral white, and cool white.
Thanks to the advancement of this technology, LED lights in multiple colors are now available. Users can even enjoy connected LED bulbs. Through their smartphone or a remote control dedicated to this purpose, they have the ability to adjust the light intensity remotely or change colors.
