Let yourself be tempted by our wide catalog of wood and chipboard screws at low prices. Usually with countersunk, hexagonal, or round heads, there is a screw for every application. Depending on your needs, opt for a Torx, Phillips, Pozidriv, or even slotted drive. You can also choose from different types of steel, such as stainless steel, bichromated steel, or phosphated steel.
There are many variations of wood and chipboard screws, which can sometimes make it difficult to choose the most suitable screw for your work. In doubt, we often revert to the same ones.
Each property of the tool is designed for a specific use:
Let's start with the screw head shapes. A countersunk screw, or countersunk head, is ideal for chipboard; its trumpet shape allows it to penetrate and anchor securely in chipboard or other solid, soft materials. It is not uncommon to see this type of head paired with under-head serrations to significantly improve fastening retention and reliability. Others have a domed head, appreciated for its aesthetic appearance. The hexagonal head, more common in coach screws, is very practical for fastenings that require strong tightening. Finally, the classic round head is versatile and suitable for general work.
Next, it is important to consider the appropriate head drive. The drive is the area that accommodates the bit or the screwing tool. The most well-known are the Phillips, slotted, and Torx drives. There are two types of Phillips drives that should be well distinguished if you don't want to damage your screw heads. The classic Phillips (noted PH) is a simple cross designed to release the bit at the end of screwing, thus limiting the tightening force, which is very practical for screwing into fragile supports like chipboard. The Pozidriv Phillips (noted PZ) with its two additional axes ensures comfortable lateral retention appreciated with automatic screwing. Finally, the Torx drive, widely used by professionals, provides complete retention thanks to its 8-pointed star shape.
The material is an important criterion in the choice of the screw. Stainless steel should be preferred for fastenings exposed to weather conditions (rain, snow, wind, etc.). Steel is sufficient for indoor fastenings, and when coupled with certain coatings (bichromated, galvanized, or other), it can be used in minimally water-protected outdoor areas, such as under a canopy.
Finally, certain attributes are very practical. For example, the needlepoint tip allows for better targeting and initiation of drilling. The anti-splitting notch minimizes the risk of wood splitting. You can also find pre-lubricated tools or those with a serrated thread for easier insertion.
You can now discard your old all-purpose screw box and equip yourself with tools for sustainable and reliable work.
