Among the many hand tools, we find the micrometer, a device used in mechanics to measure thicknesses (also called a caliper), notably manufactured by Outifrance. This measuring device has many advantages thanks to the micrometer screw which gives it good accuracy and precision.
There are two types of micrometers, namely the inside micrometer and the outside micrometer. The inside micrometer is a measuring device for bore or drill diameters, particularly cylindrical holes. This type of micrometer comes in two versions, the three-point inside micrometer, sometimes called an expanding mandrel or bore gauge, and the two-point inside micrometer. In the case of inside micrometers, the torque limiter is generally set to have a clamping force between 10 and 15 newtons for those with a capacity of 1 to 30 mm, between 15 and 20 newtons for those with a capacity of 30 to 100 mm, and between 20 and 28 newtons for those with a capacity greater than 100 mm. There are also outside micrometers, instruments for measuring the diameters and thicknesses of cylindrical sections. Composed of a bare metallic body, often covered with plastic material, this type of micrometer is usually set to achieve a clamping force between 5 and 20 newtons. Other measuring devices, such as the multimeter and the thermometer, are also necessary.
