The baby's room should not only offer them a cozy nest, but also be a practical space for you and safe for them. Complete, it often combines matching bed, dresser, and changing table.
What furnishings to choose for the baby room?
The complete baby room can be classic or evolutionary with furniture, such as the bed or dresser, that grow and transform with them.
Another possibility: the Montessori room whose main purpose is to promote autonomy, but also to be as minimalist and uncluttered as possible.
If you prefer, you obviously have the option to buy each piece of furniture separately rather than opting for a complete baby room.
Among the furniture and accessories that you can find in the complete baby room:
- The bed, which can take the form of a bassinet or cradle at birth, but will eventually need to be replaced by a crib. To ensure baby's safety, the mattress that fills it must always be perfectly suited to the dimensions of the bed.
- The changing table, which appears in the room as a standalone piece of furniture or is integrated into a dresser. It must be as practical and of course as safe as possible.
- The dresser, which provides valuable storage for the baby's many belongings. If it is equipped with a changing table, it must be high enough to prevent back pain.
- The wardrobe, offering more generous storage space than the dresser, some having only shelves, others a wardrobe area.
- Simple shelving fixed to the wall will provide additional storage and allow for placement of, for example, the many stuffed animals gifted to the baby.
- The armchair, a little extra that allows you to sit comfortably in the room to cuddle and/or breastfeed the baby.
- The lighting, which can take many forms but must always provide a soft light: ceiling light, bedside lamp, nightlight...
What colors to choose for a baby room?
Whether it's styled for a girl, boy, unisex, or completely breaks away from clichés, the baby's room can be adorned with many colors. From powdered pink to blue, through grey, white, green, yellow... almost anything is allowed, provided that you mainly use light and soft shades that contribute to creating a cocooning space.
Paint or wallpaper, what to choose for a baby room?
- Paint offers durable decor and is easy to apply, provided that the surface is well prepared. Also, make sure to choose non-toxic paint, without VOC (volatile organic compounds).
- Wallpaper has made a strong comeback in recent years. Quick to apply, but less durable than paint, it allows for many graphic effects. Here too, it must be chosen non-toxic. As for the glue used, choose a solvent-free option.
Baby room: what theme to choose?
Many themes and styles are conceivable in the baby's room. Several are particularly trendy: jungle, space, nature, Scandinavian... Others remain always relevant such as animal themes, princess, Disney, vintage...
The baby's room can be themed through its furniture, but also through stickers, posters, carpets, curtains...
Baby room: what temperature and what humidity?
- Temperature: It is important that the temperature remains stable in the baby's room, between 18 and 20° C (64 and 68° F), even in summer where it should not rise too much and never exceed 28° C (82° F).
- Humidity: As for the humidity level, it should be between 40% and 60%. If the hygrometry is too low, you can use a humidifier.
