Pool skimmers

The skimmer is an essential element of the swimming pool as it sucks water to remove dead leaves, insects, or other debris floating on the surface. Equipped with a basket, it performs an initial filtration of the pool water.

The skimmer consists of different components:

an opening through which the sucked water joins the filtration system;

a valve or check flap that prevents dirt from returning to the pool;

a basket that retains large debris to prevent clogging the filter;

a filter bag called a pre-filter placed inside the basket;

a flow regulator;

a hatch providing easy access to the basket.

This pool accessory fulfills different roles.

It is the first link in the pool's filtration system. Thanks to its filtering basket, it holds back the debris that has settled on the water surface.

It also acts as an overflow during heavy rains. This equipment thus prevents water from overflowing and flooding the garden.

The flow regulator cap adjusts the water flow to the power of the pump.

This accessory sucks water from the pool to send it back to the filter. It is possible to connect a hydraulic broom or a vacuum robot to optimize the cleaning of the pool.

It can receive water treatment products such as chlorine tablets to gradually diffuse them. This process allows the products to be diluted (during their passage through the filter) and prevents their overconcentration in the water.

A few tips should be remembered for using this equipment properly.

The water flow provided by the skimmers and the bottom drain must be greater than or equal to that of the pump. For your information, this water flow rate is 7 m³/h with a 50 mm hose and 10 m³/h with a 63 mm hose. This simple equation thus allows determining the number of accessories to be installed.

The basket must be the size of the compartment intended to receive it. A model too small is ineffective while a large-size version cannot be inserted. The filtering basket should be cleaned with a water jet at least once a week.

For optimal operation, the water level must reach 2/3 of the opening.

Therefore, the skimmer is indispensable equipment to ensure the cleanliness of the pool. Its maintenance must be performed correctly to allow it to carry out its various roles.
