Description
1) Function and use (1P 6 A MCB without residual protection)This 1P 6 A miniature circuit breaker (MCB) is designed to protect circuits against overloads and short circuits in low-voltage installations. It is typically installed in an electrical panel, control box, automation cabinet or equipment control box, in order to quickly isolate an outgoing circuit in the event of a current fault. In the event of a fault (prolonged overcurrent or a dead short circuit), the tripping mechanism opens the circuit and cuts off the power supply, limiting conductor heating, damage to devices and the risk of incidents.Important: this model does not include residual current protection (no earth leakage function). It therefore primarily protects the line and equipment, and not the person against indirect contact. For high-risk areas (damp rooms, metal equipment, sockets, outdoors, etc.), it is recommended to install an upstream DDR/RCD (or choose an RCBO depending on the distribution layout and use).2) Key technical characteristics (EU standard, French market)- Number of poles: 1P (single-pole), intended for phase protection on single-phase circuits.- Rated current: 6 A, suitable for small outgoing circuits (control, monitoring, specific lighting, auxiliaries).- Rated voltage: AC 230–400 V, compatible with typical environments in Europe.- Frequency: 50–60 Hz.- Tripping curve: C, tolerates moderate inrush currents while effectively protecting conductors.- Breaking capacity: 6 kA.- Compliance: EN 60898-1.3) Recommended applications (examples)- Low-power lighting circuits: passageways, signs, localised lighting, technical lighting.- Command and control circuits: power supply for relays, automation systems, power supply modules, sensors in an enclosure.- Dedicated protection for a small item of equipment: one circuit breaker per machine or per function to facilitate diagnostics, maintenance and lockout.- Fine management of outgoing circuits: limit the disconnection to the affected circuit only in the event of a fault.4) Selection and sizing advice- Understanding 6 A: at 230 V, theoretical power of approximately 230 × 6 = 1380 W (indicative). Sizing also depends on line length, cross-section, temperature in the panel, installation method and the nature of the load. Avoid continuous operation too close to the rated value.- C curve: suitable for many general uses and for loads with reasonable starting current. In the event of very high inrush currents, another curve or another protection strategy may be required.- No residual protection: this product does not detect earth leakage currents. For personal safety, add an upstream DDR residual current device or use an RCBO if the context requires it.5) Installation, reliability and maintenanceGenerally mounted on a DIN rail in a panel or enclosure. Before any work: switch off the power, verify absence of voltage, comply with local requirements and the installation diagram. Ensure proper terminal tightening, use suitable conductors and ferrules, and clearly identify the outgoing circuits. In the event of repeated tripping, investigate the cause (short circuit, faulty device, ageing insulation, poor contact, overload) rather than increasing the rating. For densely populated panels or hot environments, ensure ventilation and a consistent layout to limit temperature rise.
