Drilling - Remove the damaged thread with a standard drill bit. (To repair a spark plug thread, no pre-drilling is necessary when using the special spark plug tap.) Please note that larger holes are required for taps without a flute.

Check - Verify that the thread and the angle of the tap and screw are identical.

Cut the thread - Use the special taps to cut the thread in the open hole (using a suitable cutting oil is recommended).

Install the insert - Place the clamp on the installation tool and position the adjustable ring so that the pin knob is centered in the socket slot. Wind the insert with light downward pressure until it is half a turn below the surface.

Do not work with the grain, as the tenon may break. Removing the knob - Once the process is complete, lift the installation tool and remove the knob with the tenon breaking tool. For larger sizes and spark plug taps, use long-nose pliers to remove the knob. Due to precise and tight tolerances, the new thread is normally stronger than the original thread.
