The garden hose is useful for watering plants in the garden or washing the car. It is available in single-layer, multi-layer, rubber, reinforced, or micro-perforated versions to suit all uses.
Garden hoses differ in their design:
- their quality and rigidity depend on the number of layers;
- 3-layer models are considered entry-level products;
- models consisting of 4 to 6 layers resist abrasion, UV rays, weather, temperature variations, knots, folds, and pinching.
Different types of garden hoses are available to meet all needs:
- braided models consist of 3 layers, including a metal wire mesh guaranteeing resistance to water pressure and twisting;
- knitted models consist of 4 to 6 layers enhancing their resistance and preventing them from twisting;
- often supplied with their spray nozzle and fittings, expandable models are characterized by their short length and small diameter;
- anti-twist versions resist UV rays, severe temperature variations, and twisting;
- microporous models are used for irrigating the soil and not for watering plants;
- under pressure, the sprinkler emits a fine spray.
The available models also differ in their diameter.
- Models less than 50 m feature a diameter of 13 mm or 15 mm and can withstand a pressure of 2 to 5 bars. They are suited for watering a small area and for cleaning a terrace or a car. Moreover, this type of equipment is suitable for supplying a fixed irrigation device.
- Models with a diameter of 19 mm are suitable for making several connections. The pressure is reduced, but the flow increases.
Thus, the choice of a garden hose depends on the user's needs. A reel may be necessary to facilitate the use of a long hose.
