Door stops and wedges

The doorstop, or door bumper, is an essential accessory in areas of passage or those exposed to drafts. It serves to prevent the door from hitting the wall upon opening and causing damage to the door or the wall. These items also fulfill an aesthetic function.

In general, a doorstop is equipped with a rubber element to gently stop the movement of the door. There are several types, including the model:

- to be fixed to the floor, not compatible with heated floors;

- to be installed on a baseboard or on the wall, allowing easy cleaning of the floor and avoiding drilling into the covering;

- to be placed on the floor, requiring no prior drilling, easy to move;

- with an incorporated hook, serving to block the door and to hang clothes;

- magnetic, to be installed on the wall at the same level as the handle, preventing the door from slamming thanks to a magnetic system;

- to be fixed to the wall, behind the door and at the height of the handle. This type of accessory is particularly effective in avoiding damage to the wall due to repeated impacts.

It is highly recommended to match the doorstop with the style of the knob and handle, or with the room and the house in general. For example:

- in a modern decor environment, it is better to choose a model in chrome or brushed stainless steel;

- models in oak, beech, or walnut wood are to be favored to enhance Scandinavian furniture;

- an accessory in polished brass or marble (white, black, or red) will highlight the chic and refined aspect of a glamorous interior.

Before purchasing a doorstop, it is important to pay special attention to various criteria such as:

- the intended location (in the case of models to be fixed), to avoid obstructing the passage or the movement of the door;

- the design and color, mainly dictated by the taste of the future user;

- the manufacturing material, determined by the desired style or the frequency of use of the item. Thus, on a door that is frequently used, the accessory's resistance to wear often takes precedence over its aesthetic aspect.

To choose your doorstop, it is important to anticipate its conditions of use (entrance or service door, rarely or frequently used, etc.). It is also advisable to opt for a design that matches the door knob, the handle, or the house's decor style.
