Description

This Zama-type replacement carburetor fits Stihl MS 170, MS 180, 017, or 018 chainsaws.

The chainsaw carburetor: a key component

In your chainsaw, the carburetor's function is to ensure the production of a crucial mixture: fuel (gasoline) and oxidizer (air), which will then ignite to help the spark plug ignite and transmit energy to the engine. This part also manages the air-fuel ratio before it enters the combustion chamber. It is therefore absolutely essential for starting the internal combustion engine.

Easily replace the carburetor on your Stihl chainsaw

When a carburetor is misadjusted or defective, it can unbalance the fuel/air ratio of the combustion mixture.

Thus, the chainsaw becomes abnormally noisy, won't start, emits smoke, or lacks power. The same applies to a clogged carburetor. We advise you to clean it with a cloth and a brush, then grease it thoroughly. If the part is beyond repair, replace it with this replacement carburetor for Stihl MS170, MS180, 017, or 018 chainsaws. Adjusting the Mixture Screws: Once you have changed your Stihl chainsaw carburetor, check the condition of the gasket that connects it to the cylinder. Then, adjust the part using a flathead screwdriver. There are two mixture screws on this carburetor: - the L screw (for "low" or "low RPM"), and - the H screw (for "high" or "high RPM"). Start by tightening both screws fully, then unscrew them two turns. From this default position, you can fine-tune the mixture by ear. Simply start your power tool, listen to the sounds it makes, and adjust the screws half turns according to what you hear. For example: - if the Stihl chainsaw engine stalls before acceleration, slightly unscrew the "low" screw to enrich the mixture. - if, on the other hand, it stalls after acceleration, this means there is too much fuel and the "low" screw needs to be tightened.
