Description

This Zama carburetor fits the Stihl chainsaws MS 170, MS 180, 017, and 018. The carburetor is a key component of your chainsaw. It creates the optimal fuel-air mixture, which ignites and thus sparks the spark plug. The energy is then transferred to the engine. The carburetor also regulates the air-fuel ratio before it enters the combustion chamber. It is therefore essential for starting the engine. Replacing the carburetor on your Stihl chainsaw is very easy. An incorrectly adjusted or defective carburetor can disrupt the fuel-air mixture during the combustion process. The result: The chainsaw becomes unusually loud, won't start, smokes, or has insufficient power. The same applies to a clogged carburetor. We recommend cleaning it with a cloth and a brush and then thoroughly greasing it. If the part is irreparable, replace it with this replacement carburetor for Stihl MS170, MS180, 017, or 018 chainsaws. Adjusting the mixture screws: After replacing the carburetor on your Stihl chainsaw, check the condition of the gasket that connects it to the cylinder. Then, adjust the mixture screws using a flathead screwdriver. This carburetor has two mixture screws: the L screw (for "low" or "low RPM") and the H screw (for "high" or "high RPM"). First, tighten both screws completely, and then turn them out two turns. From this starting position, you can fine-tune the mixture by ear. Simply start your power tool, listen to the sounds, and adjust the screws in half-turn increments according to the sound. For example, if your Stihl chainsaw engine stalls before accelerating, turn the "low" screw out slightly to enrich the mixture. However, if the engine stalls after acceleration, this means that there is too much fuel and the "Low" screw needs to be tightened.
