It can audibly identify the selected wire or cable. Depending on the circuit characteristics and sensitivity settings, the probe picks up the wire signal at different positions. However, to obtain the best possible range, the probe tip of the receiver (black cap) must be positioned perpendicular (at a 90° angle) to the cable being traced and either above or below it.

The supplied RJ11 connector allows you to easily test your telephone system (in CONT mode, you must use two alligator clips). In CONT mode, connect two clips to each end of the circuit wire. In TONE mode, connect the red clip to the cable and the black clip to ground, then follow the cable to the disconnected position.
