Back the threaded shaft until the separator rests on the crankshaft and the arms are parallel and equidistant from the crankcase. Step 2: Using the provided 6mm or 8mm bolts, attach the separator arms at regular intervals around the crankshaft and secure the arms to the crankcase. (Sometimes only two arms will be needed; if so, space them evenly.) Step 3: It is important that the splitter is properly aligned with the crank and that the arms are parallel to the crankcase. Step 4: Make sure all bolts are removed from the crankcase. Step 5: Using a 17mm socket or wrench, carefully tighten the threaded shaft until the crankcase is free. Important: Since the bike has been together for a while, things can get stuck, so you need to be very careful. Make sure not only that you apply force evenly but also gradually increase the force (the trick is to use a small hammer for gentle taps), otherwise you risk breaking the splitter arms or your crankcase.
