The bathtub drain is not a simple thing. It's a complex system comprising around a dozen different elements. I won't list all the components of a bathtub's drainage system here, but I'll try to explain its main parts. There are 3 of them: the plug, the overflow, and the siphon.
The bathtub plug:
The plug is the first component of the draining installation. It's the direct intermediary between the bathtub on one side, and the drainage system on the other. It's the "hole" or "grate" of the bathtub, through which the water drains. The plug is traditionally chain-operated. However, the most common type remains the cable-operated plug (also called automatic drain plug).
The overflow:
The overflow is the tube that prevents overpressures within the drainage system. It's installed outside the bathtub and then held in place with the trim on the inside of the bathtub. For example, in the case of a cable drainer, the overflow is fixed behind the control button.
The bathtub siphon:
The siphon is the element connecting the wastewater pipes to the actual bathtub drain. It can be classic (in an S shape) or extra flat (then called compact siphon). But as always, on ManoMano, our siphons remain cheaper!
