These switches must be used in conjunction with a relay. 2. The switch must activate the relay, and the relay must power the fan because an electric fan usually draws a lot of current. When the switch closes to ground (between 170 and 210°C), the relay is energized and powers the fan. The switch will open and break the ground circuit when the temperature drops. 3. The relay deactivates and cuts power to the fan. Installation Precautions: (1) Turn off the engine and, once the engine radiator water has cooled to room temperature, replace it with a new cooling fan temperature switch. (2) Please avoid using external high-temperature sources after installation. (3) During installation, avoid spilling water on surrounding automotive parts. Direct Connection: (The fan operates when the ignition is on.) 1. Attach the positive wire of the fan motor (blue) to a 12V positive ignition-controlled source, e.g., a fuse box. Note: We recommend using a 20A in-line fuse (not included) for each fan. 2. Attach the negative wire of the fan motor (black) to a suitable ground. Note: Connect directly to the negative terminal of the battery if possible. 3. Reconnect the battery.
