Gewiss is a family-owned Italian company founded in 1970 in Cenate Sotto, Lombardy (Northern Italy). It was founded by the Bosatelli family, whose members are still on the Board of Directors. The founder, Dominique Bosatelli, was still running the company in 2010. It specialises in all areas of electrical installation: combs, circuit breakers, sockets and switches. Bosatelli revolutionised the sector by using technopolymer, which offers three advantages: greater safety (because it is non-conductive), ease of maintenance and a certain aesthetic appeal. In 1988, the company was floated on the Milan stock exchange, underpinning its rapid growth and global profile, and quadrupling its turnover. It also acquired competitors (NOWAPLAST, Schupa, Merz and Mavil), making it a key player in the European market. In 1997, Gewiss launched its 90 Series circuit breakers, the only ones in the world with two protected poles in a single module. Gewiss has a turnover of 320 million euros and employs 1,600 people; it manufactures in Italy, Germany, Portugal and France in Les Ulis (Essonne). It has a strong presence in Europe, as well as in Dubai, Shanghai, Istanbul and Santiago de Chile.
