Their shape is due to their cheap manufacturing and lower quality compared to round filters, which offer a more uniform surface. Furthermore, their unusual thickness restricts water flow and puts a heavy strain on your pump. Why use a thick hexagonal foam block in a housing designed for round filters? I myself used the original filters for about a year and found they only lasted a week. They were virtually impossible to clean. What's more, they cost me a fortune. So I looked for a foam alternative and, after six months of trial and error, I settled on the filters shown here. I have been using them without any problems ever since. They are much cheaper than the original filters, offer a much smoother water flow, and filter far better. I managed to get hold of round filters, unlike the misshapen and cheap models sold elsewhere. Thanks to their smooth surface, they filter the water much more effectively and fit perfectly. These filters require more regular maintenance, and I recommend using bromine: this chemical is odorless, cheaper, gentler on the skin, and much kinder to the filter. If you opt for chlorine, I strongly advise changing these filters every week. Please note that these filters will discolor slightly with use. This is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about. Some sellers dye their foam green to mask this, but I prefer complete transparency with my customers.
