Product information

Description

Specifications Item Type: Straight Tap Material: High-speed steel System: Metric Thread Quantity: 4 Thread Tolerance: 0.014 Through Hole/Blind Hole: Through Hole Tap Style: Straight groove Thread Code: Standard thread Application: Suitable for thick steel, rubber, aluminum, copper, and wood. Usage: The product set consists of 2 parts, which can be divided into a head cone and two cones. Tap Function: There is a conical section at the front of the tap, which is smooth with no threads (very shallow), to facilitate alignment between the tap and the tap hole and ensure the circularity of the tap and the hole for smooth tapping. Second Cone Function: In addition to machining the extra thickness of the head cone to meet the standard, it serves to polish the threads (deburr). For threads with blind holes, it can be tapped downwards. Simply put, the first taper is for rough machining and the second taper is for fine machining. The workpiece must be properly clamped. Generally, the side of the workpiece to be tapped should be positioned horizontally or vertically. This makes it easier to judge and maintain the tap's direction perpendicular to the workpiece's thread base during tapping. When starting to tap, position the tap as far as possible, then use one hand to press along the tap's axes and gently rotate the tap's hinge with the other. When the tap has rotated 1 to 2 turns, observe whether the tap is perpendicular to the workpiece's thread base from the front or side. If necessary, use a square to correct this.

Advice from

Taps and dies buying guide

Taps and dies are essential to make or re-thread a screw, a nut or any other mechanical element. The three-piece tap sets are the most commoly used and the tap wrench is as important as the die stock for a proper tapping. Drilling is required before tapping.
