Description

Original Veggie Beds are perfect for vegetables, flowers and herbs and make perfect alpine throughs. With an old fashioned 1940’s style these corrugated steel planters are perfect for growing your own, perfect for creating a vintage look in the garden or allotment.

The clever flat-pack design can be set up in 6 different ways to suit the size and shape of your plot. Simply lay it out in a rectangle or square to the dimensions required, then assemble it using the hardware and handy tool provided – it’s really that simple! The kit even includes a plastic edging to protect the top edge and give an attractive finish.

The strong walls are made from durable, weatherproof Zincalume steel with an attractive sage-green Colourbond coating, lasting up to 4 times as long as normal galvanised steel.

These hardwearing raised beds are a comfortable working height of 40cm (16”). For the best results, construct them on level ground, preferable on a bed of 10-20mm of gravel to allow excellent drainage and prevents deterioration of the bottom edge of the bed.

Each bed can be set up in any of the following shapes and sizes:

  • Oblong: 1.6m x 0.6m - requires 375 litres of compost
  • Small Rectangle: 0.9m x 0.6m - requires 225 litres of compost
  • Small Square: 0.6m x 0.6m - requires 100 litres of compost
  • Medium Rectangle: 1.3m x 0.6m - requires 250 litres of compost
  • Large Square: 0.9m x 0.9m - requires 250 litres of compost
  • Large Rectangle: 1.3m x 0.9m - requires 400 litres of compost

What to plant and sow in March

For most gardeners, the year really kicks off in March. Depending on where you live, the amount of sun exposure you have and what you plan to grow, you can start seeds indoors and in greenhouses, repot your indoor plants and sow your summer annuals. Lettuces, leeks and carrots can also go in the ground from mid-March.
