Description

Main Features: Botanical Name: Pisum sativum var. saccharatum German Name: Snow pea, sugar snap pea Type: Annual vegetable Sowing Time: February to May (spring) and September to October (autumn in mild regions) Maturity: 60 to 80 days after sowing Location: Full sun to partial shade Hardiness: Winter-hardy, withstands light frost Description: The snow pea differs from the classic pea by its flat, tender pods, which are eaten whole before the seeds develop. This variety is prized for its mild flavor and crunchy texture, ideal for stir-fries, salads, or fresh eating. Uses: Fresh eating in salads Asian cuisine (stir-fries, wok) Harvest young pods for a tender texture Sowing and Cultivation: Sowing: Time: Sow outdoors from February to May for a summer harvest. In regions with mild climates, autumn sowing (September-October) allows for a spring harvest. Depth: Sow seeds 2–3 cm deep in groups of 3–4 seeds. Spacing: Place groups 30–40 cm apart (low varieties) or 50–60 cm apart (climbing varieties). Row spacing 50–60 cm. Germination: Germination takes 7 to 14 days at an ideal soil temperature of 10–18°C. Cultivation: Soil: Light, rich in organic matter, well-drained. Snow peas prefer fresh, deep soils. Watering: Regular, especially during flowering and pod formation. Lack of water can make the pods fibrous. Support: For climbing varieties, install a support (netting, poles, trellis) immediately at sowing. Low varieties can be grown without support. Care: Lightly hill up the plants to stabilize them. Mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Harvest: Time: Harvest the pods before the seeds begin to grow, when they are flat and still tender. Usually 60 to 80 days after sowing. Method: Harvest regularly (every 2–3 days) to stimulate production. Start with the lower pods of the plant. Quality: The youngest and smallest pods are the most tender. Tips: Sow successively every 3 weeks to extend the harvest period. Avoid growing peas in the same place for two consecutive years to prevent soil depletion and disease. Packaging: 15 seeds.
