Product information
Description
This is a replacement part for a critical sealing component inside a Pentair 2-inch high-flow multiport valve (commonly used in large sand filters): the spider gasket (or valve plate gasket, sealing gasket), part number 272409, which replaces the original part number 27-2409. Resembling a spider with outstretched legs, this gasket is a precision-molded rubber or elastomer component mounted on the valve's internal baffle (rotor). Its multiple raised sealing surfaces ensure that the corresponding ports on the valve body are sealed, regardless of its operating mode, preventing water from flowing through unintended channels. The spider gasket is the fastest-wearing component in a multiport valve. Subjected to water pressure, chemical corrosion, and slight friction with the valve body with each handle rotation, the seal deforms, hardens, loses elasticity, and may even develop indentations or surface cracks. When the seal is defective, it can cause water to leak inside the valve, with water flowing outside the intended circuit to other ports. For example, in filtration mode, some water may enter the backwash port directly, significantly reducing filtration efficiency, and water may leak from this port. Replacing the 272409 seal is the standard procedure for repairing internal leaks in Pentair 2-inch multiport valves. Open the valve cover, remove the old diverter, replace it with a diverter fitted with the new seal (or replace the seal separately), and then reassemble everything. This will restore precise and reliable control of the water flow direction, ensuring optimal operation of the sand filter.
