The time has come to varnish your furniture! To do this, ManoMano offers you different types of varnishes: hard base varnishes, finishing varnishes, hardeners, and even liquid lacquers. If you want to emphasize the aesthetics or the protection of your furniture, your choices will not be based on the same varnish: a polyurethane, cellulose, or pre-catalyzed varnish.
Are you uncertain what to choose from such a wide variety of varnishes? We are here to help you! First and foremost, the primary purpose of a varnish is the protection of the wood.
Two types of varnishes will satisfy you: the hard base varnish which is mainly used to fill in the naturally occurring holes or cracks in your wooden furniture; or the finishing varnish which leaves a thin varnish film on the surface of your furniture or door, ensuring a smooth result.
Depending on your choice, you can choose different types of varnishes:
1) A polyurethane varnish if you want your furniture, once varnished, to be resistant to abrasion and acidic products but also to enhance the wood of your surface.
2) If you want a varnish that is both easy to use and dries very quickly, it is better to choose the cellulose varnish. Moreover, it is known for giving a smooth appearance to the varnished surface.
3) As for the pre-catalyzed varnish, it is characterized by its fast drying and exceptional resistance to scratches and abrasion. The latter also has the advantage of being both a base and finishing varnish, meaning the catalyst is incorporated into the varnish components, hence its peculiarity.
The rest of your varnish's characteristics depend on your preferences: the content, whether it is scratch-resistant or not, or UV resistance if you are varnishing furniture that will be exposed to the sun - so that it does not lose its color.
Our Flooring & Walls team hopes to have clarified your choice a bit more. However, if our explanations are not sufficient, do not hesitate to contact us!
