Abrasive paper, sometimes called sandpaper or emery paper, is a surface treatment tool. It is used to smooth rough wooden surfaces, break edges, or remove large amounts of material.

Abrasive - Corundum.

Corundum is the most commonly used abrasive. Its important properties, hardness, and strength depend on its purity, which is already recognizable by its color. While hardness, and therefore brittleness, increases with the degree of purity, strength increases with the addition of metal oxides and the cooling rate during the manufacturing process.

Normal corundum is brown and contains more than 94% Al2O3. Its primary applications are unalloyed and low-alloy steels, as well as cast iron and gray cast iron, and also wood, plasterboard, and plastics. Its strength also allows for high contact forces on the workpiece.
