Preparation

Start by blocking the drain opening with a piece of cloth so that parts don't fall down the drain. You can also place a thick cloth (like a blanket) inside the tab to prevent damage from dropped tools. Safety and Caution: Make sure the water supply has been turned off so that no water escapes during installation. Also, be careful with the amount of torque you apply when unscrewing the old shower head. Too much torque can damage the plumbing in your walls. Finally, wrap the jaws of your wrenches and pliers with masking tape to protect the finish of the shower arm.
