The brake plate (brake lever/safety brake unit) is an essential component of the chainsaw's safety system and is connected to the front hand guard. In the event of kickback or emergency braking, simply pushing the hand guard forward activates the braking mechanism, instantly engaging the brake band with the clutch drum.
