The step relay is part of the switch family, just like electronic dimmers and two-way switches. This device allows you to control the lighting from multiple different locations. It is particularly suitable when you want to install more than three control points for lighting.
The device in question is also appropriate when there is a significant distance between two control points, such as in a long corridor, an amphitheater, or other large spaces. In other cases, it is more practical to opt for the two-way switch system. There are two types of step relays: single-pole and double-pole. With a single pole, it only cuts the phase when turning off the lighting devices. With two poles, it cuts both the phase and the neutral, just like a sub-circuit breaker. Double-pole models thus provide additional safety for the electrical installation by completely isolating the lighting devices from the entire circuit. Furthermore, some step relay models also have a timer function, allowing you to program the lighting duration.
