Upon separation, the system works with your trailer's electronic brakes to stop it much faster than it would on its own. This is achieved using an onboard battery attached to the trailer and a switching system connected to both the trailer and the vehicle. When the trailer is disconnected, the breakaway switch activates and directs power from the battery to the trailer brakes.
