A range hood is an essential element in a kitchen. It is positioned above the cooking surface to suck up cooking grease, filter odors, and expel them. For it to be fully operational, a filter suited for the hood is indispensable.
Regarding filters, there are two distinct types, namely:
- the grease filter which is generally used to capture greasy particles present in the cooking smoke;
- the charcoal filter used to expel odors, but also grease, noting that it can also be equipped with a grease filter.
Each of these two varieties has its particularities, and they are necessary for the range hood to function properly. Indeed, the filters absorb the greasy particles contained in the fumes and vapors, and these will come to lodge on the walls of the hood or the filter. However, these particles are highly flammable hence the necessity to periodically change the filters, every 4 to 5 months depending on the model.
There is a wide variety of replacement charcoal filters compatible with different hood brands. Moreover, this element is easily installed on different devices. These filters are composed of charcoal beads that ensure filtering, but they can wear out quickly depending on the type of cooking taking place in the kitchen. In other words, households that do more frying and barbecuing may need to change their charcoal filter every 3 to 4 months. However, some grease filters can be cleaned quite well, especially those made of metal. Metal grease filters have this advantage over synthetic grease filters. As a result, they last longer and do not require a change within too short a timeframe.
To replace a charcoal filter, it is essential to rely on the references written on the device. These indications are useful for making the correct choice at the time of purchase. It’s worth noting that this type of filter is increasingly easy to find given the standardization of models. The support is another point that should not be overlooked. Indeed, the supports for hood filters also have a tendency to wear out. Fortunately, they are available individually or in sets and are easy to install. However, a check of the fixing screws is required to verify compatibility as well as the sturdiness of the installation.
