The awning looks good enough when put together, but the instructions are rubbish. You should get a degree for competing it.

I bought this item to provide shade for a glass room we have had built and as such it will be protected from wind and rain and so should last a good few years. The item arrived in four large boxes ... three arrived at once which caused me concern that many of the components (especially the fittings) were missing, but the customer service was great - quick and reassuring and the fourth box (which wasn't missing but delayed) arrived the following day. In retrospect it would have been helpful to know that the item was despatched in four boxes which might not necessarily arrive at the same time. When I was ready to assemble the awning I layed out all the components and checked them off against the list in the instructions. I consider myself to be an experienced and competent 'self-assemble' but it was clear from the outset that this was going to be a challenging build. The size and weight of the components was certainly a factor but I was reassured by the fit and apparent integrity of the various pieces as the awning came together. The assembly instructions were a series of frankly complicated illustrations with minimal accompanying text. I read and re-read them a number of times in order to become familiar enough with them to start to build. In particular there were very few measurements quoted, which turn out to be quite critical when it comes to installation and adjustment. I took my time and in around two hours I had a completed cassette awning which looked impressive. Fixing the three supplied wall brackets was simple enough - a dozen 12mm holes which need to be carefully measured and accurately drilled, but the brackets had good scope for adjustment and this turned out to be a simple task. When it came to lifting the awning on to the brackets I did require the help of a friend and we just about managed to lift the awning (which is surprisingly heavy once built) onto the brackets. Ideally you should do this with three persons for safety. It was in the setting up and adjustment of the awning after installation where the real issues emerged for me. Again, the lack of detail and accompanying text to the illustrations was a big problem, resulting in lots of head-scratching. In particular the adjustment of the pitch of the extended awning is a critical point. Essentially you need to loosen the four heavy-duty bolts supporting the awning and determining the angle at which it sits, then make adjustments with an 8mm allen bolt with a head/key which was much too small for the torque/weight this bolt needs to be capable of holding until you can finally tighten up the main supporting bolts. It needs to be made very clear in the instructions that the full weight of the extended awning needs to be taken either on supports or with helps, higher than you realisitically want the awning sit at, before you attempt to adjust this bolt. And given the strength of it and the threaded block it screws into, you've really only got a couple of goes at it. I found it impossible to set the height of the awning and after several attempts the head of the allen bolt rounded off and the key was useless. I was able to continue adjustment by filing two flats on the head and using a spanner, but then found that the threads of the bolt had stripped out in the block. I now had a major problem, and had to resolve this by drilling out the damaged threads, inserting a filed down 8mm bolt into the block (just) and using a high-tensile 8mm bolt to replace the allen bolt. This thankfully worked and I was finally to set the height of the awning for my needs. As, with some relief, I tightened the fixing bolts I could see inside the block that the 8mm bolts were deformed and close to collapsing under the weight. This is a significant design floor and I imagine that for a smaller awning this wouldn't be so critical, but with the 4m awning the manufacturers are pushing their luck with the structural integrity of the design. Having finally set the height of the awning I then had to make adjustments to ensure that it closed correctly (and it didn't). This is where measurements in the assembly stage are essential, particularly the inboard distance of the ends of the extended arms at the front of the awning. Quite simply, if these are not set exactly right along the sliding rail the captive bolts are fixed to, the awning will not close. I got there in the end and now the awning opens and closes easily, hugs the underside of the glass room roof and looks smart and clean when closed. In addition to the 2 hours for assembly I would estimate that installation took a further hour but final adjustments (including overcoming the issue with the allen bolts) took over three hours. This was an expensive investment for me and I was surprised that so much self-assembly was required. It's true that you only need a minimum of tools to assemble but the complexity of the process and the skill required, particularly to set it up, would be way beyond the ability of many homeowners. The instructions in particular are a weak point in the product - better written and with clearer detail regarding some of the critical elements of the build, would mitigate a lot of the risk of getting it wrong and causing damage. I was lucky I was able to modify the adjustment fixture but I'm not sure that some would be capable of this. I'm hoping to get 2-3 years' use from the awning but it remains to be seen how it copes with daily use and whether the mechanism holds up. I do envisage in the near future ditching this and going with motorised roller blinds.

I had already ordered a manual blind of 400 cm, I received a 300 cm, moreover I thought that it was assembled, I am in the course of assembly (more than 50 parts with assemblies), I did not still finished after more than a day and a half of assembly and to complete my dissatisfaction it misses part number 22 without which I cannot completely assemble this blind.
