WAGO Kontakttechnik GmbH & Co KG, or simply WAGO, is a German company based in Minden (Westphalia). It is a specialist manufacturer of terminals for electrical and building equipment, and components for automation. It was originally a family business founded in April 1951 by Friedrich Hohorst and Heinrich Nagel, who developed the spring clamp. Later, under the leadership of Friedrich Hohorst, WAGO invented other spring-loaded connectors: screwless terminals, terminal blocks and connectors, as well as dominoes. In the 1990s, WAGO moved upmarket, designing consumer electronics such as internal computer buses (which connect all the internal components of a computer). Following the exponential growth in its sales, it now manufactures mainly at Sondershausen in Germany, in addition to the Minden site. It employs 2,600 people at its two sites in Germany, more than half of its global workforce.
