The HID ballast is important because it makes the lamp light up and allows current to flow through the bulb, thus keeping the lamp on. Another important function is the control of the current flow in the discharge lamp. HID lamps (high-pressure discharge lamps) are connected to a power supply that regulates the voltage and frequency of the current to ensure the lamp receives the correct power. The ballast is usually mounted at the rear or bottom of the headlight.
