The workshop cart allows for the transportation of various tools and materials, heavy or light. This type of device is equipped with directional wheels, at least one tray, and sometimes a foldable backrest. Placing tools on it and keeping them within reach significantly saves time during handling tasks.
The workshop cart consists of the following elements:
- a crossbar that allows the user to steer it;
- one or more trays to carry loads;
- four castors, including two directional ones, making it easy to move from one place to another.
There are three types of workshop carts, namely:
- the classic model, equipped with one or two backs;
- the tiered wheel cart, equipped with two or three trays;
- the version with four sided grilles that keeps tools perfectly in place.
To compare the different models, it is appropriate to consider the following criteria:
- frequency of use;
- the weight, size, and type of loads;
- the size of the premises, the clearance size, or the type of flooring;
- distances to be covered during the execution of handling tasks (a criterion for selecting wheel quality).
Regarding the cart itself, it is appropriate to favor robust models with a steel structure. Indeed, this material is particularly resistant to impacts. In addition, equipment provided with a non-slip mat allows for keeping the loads perfectly in place. The wheels are fixed and/or swivel. On the practical side, workshop carts equipped with a foldable back are easy to store and transport. Furthermore, one should not overlook the number of trays, especially if the user wishes to move various tools at the same time.
Thus, the choice of a workshop cart will be made based on use and the nature of the objects to be transported. This equipment is generally associated with a service trolley, a hand truck, or a pallet jack.
