MCCULLOCH

McCulloch was founded in 1943 in the United States by an entrepreneur, Robert Paxton McCulloch. Initially based in Wisconsin, a state with numerous engine factories including the Harley-Davidson Motor Company, the McCulloch Motors Corporation was transferred to California in 1946 to produce two-stroke engines. In 1949, McCulloch created its first one-man portable chainsaw, the 3-25, which enabled American lumberjacks to work less arduously. In the 1950s, the company turned its attention to aircraft and go-kart engines. But it made a strong comeback in the chainsaw market in 1968 with the Power Mac 6 petrol engine, weighing just 4.4 kg, making it the lightest chainsaw in the world. In 1972, miniaturisation took centre stage with the Mini Mac 1. McCulloch took advantage of this to move into mass-market pruning tools such as hedge trimmers, edgers, blowers and electric chainsaws. It then diversified into garden tools, notably with its famous black and yellow lawnmowers. McCulloch products are renowned for their robustness, drawing on the company's expertise in professional chainsaws. In 1999, McCulloch joined the prestigious Swedish company Husqvarna.
