It's important to weigh up the main properties of different decking boards before settling on a wood species for your garden.
- Pine is a European wood and offers the best value for money. However, it must be heat-treated to extend its service life.
- Chestnut and oak are more hardwearing, but more expensive.
- Exotic wood is naturally moisture-resistant as it originates from tropical climates. The weight and finish of the wood depends on the species you choose. There are two ways to secure garden decking: traditional screws or hidden fasteners.
