Decorating knives: make the right choice
Yes, before painting you will need to apply a coating! For this, ManoMano has selected affordable and practical coating knives and spatulas. This essential painter's tool is available in several materials: stainless steel, polyamide, or steel. The handle material also varies (wood or plastic), as well as the width of the product, it's up to you to decide!
But why equip yourself with these two tools? Any knowledgeable DIYer equips themselves with a spatula to manage the amount of coating to put on the coating knife. If you have placed too much on your coating knife for a crack, for example, use your spatula to remove the excess. Also, it helps clean the coating knife to avoid an accumulation of dry coating clumps that could cause scratches on the coating you will apply.
As for the coating knife, it allows smoothing the surface you want to paint or cover with wallpaper or to fill in holes or cracks in the walls.
Several criteria are to be taken into account when selecting your tool. First of all, the blade material is to be considered. Choose a coating knife or a spatula in stainless steel if you want a rot-resistant and durable product (blade lifespan between 5 and 6 years if well maintained) or in steel, for a hard and impact-resistant blade. As for the handle material, opt for wood for more comfort or plastic if you want a non-oxidizable and ergonomic handle.
The width of the blade is also important: it all depends on the surface you want to coat.
