Designer cooker hoods: make the right choice
A designer range hood not only serves to eliminate cooking odors and filter air in the kitchen but also adds a modern touch to the decor. Some models are mounted on the wall and others on the ceiling.
As their name suggests, decorative range hoods are designed to optimize kitchen decor while ensuring air renewal. Two models stand out based on their installation system.
- Wall-mounted hoods are fixed to the wall, just above the cooktop. They can thus capture a large volume of air. Inclined versions are available to suit cramped spaces. These kitchen appliances come in various unique shapes such as a triangle, a half-moon, or a trapezoid.
- Ceiling-mounted models are also called islands. Needless to say, they are placed above a kitchen island. This type of equipment is thus essential if the cooktop is located in the middle of the room.
The devices offered also differ in their operation mode.
- Models with the extraction or ducted system suck in water vapor and smoke to expel them outside of the dwelling through a specifically arranged duct. A filter removes grease from the stale air before expelling it outside. This type of equipment is more suited to a detached house due to the need for an exhaust duct and a ventilation device.
- Recycling system models operate in a closed circuit. Indeed, the stale air sucked in by this type of device passes through a grease filter and a charcoal filter before being reintroduced into the room. These devices do not expel moisture, but they remove grease particles and odors from the air. They are suitable for apartments.
Some parameters should be considered when choosing a decorative range hood.
- The air flow depends on the type of device chosen and the size of the kitchen. For a ducted device, the air flow is calculated by multiplying the room's volume (surface x height) by ten. For a recycling device, the room's volume is multiplied by 20.
- The noise level emitted by the device is also a factor not to be overlooked. If the quietest models emit a sound at 35 dB, the noise level can reach 60 dB, or even 80 dB for the loudest ones. To reduce the noise level, it is possible to equip the device with a remote motor installed in another room.
Ultimately, the choice of a decorative range hood depends on the user's taste, but also on the kitchen's configuration and the type of housing.
