Hacksaws: make the right choice
A hacksaw is a highly useful mechanical tool in metalworking, for DIY projects, and in industrial environments. It is specifically designed for sawing metallic bodies, bars, plates, tubes, etc. The hacksaw is thus intended to cut and work with the hardest materials like steel. Given its intended use, the hacksaw has a particular shape to facilitate cutting.
A hacksaw is recognizable by its very sharp and fine teeth. It generally measures about 300 or 350 mm in length, 13, 16 or 25 mm in width and 0.8 mm in thickness. The quality of a hacksaw mainly depends on the type of metal it is made from: high-speed steel, cast steel, galvanized steel, steel alloy, etc. The teeth of hacksaws are milled. The different models of hacksaws typically feature 6 to 12 teeth per centimeter for French blades and 14 to 32 teeth per inch for English blades. When using the saw, the cutting must be done in the direction opposite to the inclination of the teeth. In addition, a hacksaw must always be used with a frame. It is an arc-shaped metal device equipped with a screw tensioner at one end and a handling handle at the other end. Adjusting the frame helps to tension the saw blade to achieve better efficiency.
