19.6cm wooden pull handle for barn door or sliding door, carbon steel (D black)
With or without a key, an interior door handle is an element that facilitates movement within the home. It primarily allows for the closing and opening of a door. Many models manage to combine functionality and aesthetics. Manufacturers offer a wide range of designs, materials, and finishes to suit all styles.
There are several types of door handles: with a knob or lever, on a rose or on a backplate, and with or without drilling (to accommodate a key).
- The choice between a knob or a lever is purely aesthetic.
- The use or not of a key is dictated by the need (to secure the room, preserve privacy, isolate oneself, etc.).
- Door handles on a backplate improve the aesthetic aspect of the door. Often rectangular, the backplate also helps to protect the surface from dirt and fingerprints.
- More discreet than a backplate, the rose is circular and is more suited to a knob.
The choice of the handle's locking system primarily depends on the door and the room in question.
- Keyed handles are useful for limiting access to certain parts of the dwelling (cellar, garage, office, bedroom...) for security reasons or privacy needs. The chosen model must be compatible with the door lock.
- Privacy handles are more suitable for bathrooms and restrooms. The button can only be engaged from the inside of the room.
- Handles on a rose or on a non-drilled backplate are not equipped with locking mechanisms. They are suitable for the living room, kitchen, lounge, or any other frequently used room.
The material and style of interior door handles can be chosen according to the character of the building or the personality of the owner.
- There are handles with simple shapes that limit themselves to their functional nature. They are very plain and easily integrate into all decorative settings.
- Square backplates as well as ultra-flat handles or those with an unconventional design highlight the modern character of the dwelling.
- Porcelain knobs or wrought iron, for example, are recommended to enhance a rustic decoration or a period building.
- The choice of material primarily depends on individual taste and the desired visual effect. The architecture of the dwelling must also be considered at the time of purchase. Moreover, all materials possess a specific advantage in terms of finish (chrome, smooth, brushed, matte, glossy…).
Before choosing an interior door handle, it is necessary to take into account the specificity of the room (little or frequently used, private area, etc.), the architecture of the building, and the decorative ambiance.
