Generally consisting of a round or flat metal piece called the bolt, the lock is a piece of hardware that controls the closure of a frame or a door. This bolt typically slides horizontally into the strike plate or the clasp. The closure is activated either by the back-and-forth movement of a key, a knob, or a bent rod, or by the rotation of a control button.
There are many types of locks, including lever locks, to secure and lock doors and windows. Among other locking systems such as key locks, code locks, card locks, or biometric locks, we find the latch, padlock, mortise lock, and bolt. The opening of a lock can be done from one or both sides. Some locks open only from the inside when they are not equipped with a cylinder, and from both the inside and the outside when they are, whether it is a single or double cylinder. The double-cylinder lock provides protection comparable to that of a lock. Two types of locks can be mentioned, namely the latch bolt and the sliding bolt. The sliding bolt is the simplest of locks and consists of a rod housed in a bracket on the door. More sophisticated sliding bolts are available on the market and are equipped with a rotating button to advance the bar. The second type of lock is the latch bolt, a lock fitted with a metal lever ideal for small doors and which can be magnetic, ball, or spring-loaded.
