MEV extractor fans: make the right choice
An exhaust vent in a VMC system refers to the casing in the wall that extracts stale air from the dwelling to the outside. The location of this element largely determines its efficiency. Thus, it is recommended to always install extraction vents in each of the rooms that produce the most emissions (kitchen, bathroom, laundry room...) to purify the tainted atmosphere.
The VMC vent is generally made of PVC and protected by a grille. Some of them are manually adjustable, with a flap operated by a string to control the air flow as desired. Moreover, in addition to the power of the motor, the air renewal rate in the home also depends on where this tool is installed and the connectors used. Indeed, extraction vents should be installed high up, as close to the ceiling as possible, where warm and moist air accumulates. The device is thus placed: either on top of the wall or in the exposed ceiling. Furthermore, it is recommended to connect the extraction vents of a bathroom to an 80 mm duct and that of a kitchen to a 125 mm duct, since the latter room requires a greater flow. Ideally, placing the VMC vents just above the source of steam (bathtub, stove, shower...) optimizes air extraction. Finally, some of these instruments can serve as either extraction or supply vents, as is the case for certain models from the brand UNELVENT. In this instance, the function of the accessory depends solely on the considered air treatment system: single or double flow.
