Description
1) Combined protection, designed for modern consumer unitsThis 4-pole (4P) 50 A miniature RCBO combines in a single device two essential functions for the safety of a low-voltage installation: protection against overloads and short circuits (circuit breaker function) and residual current protection against insulation faults or earth leakage (residual current function). It is particularly suitable for installations where fast and clear disconnection is required in the event of a fault: home, small shop, offices, outbuildings, workshops, or secondary consumer unit outgoing ways. The practical day-to-day benefit is clear: it is not limited to “it trips when the load is too high”, it also protects against more hidden faults such as an appliance whose casing accidentally becomes live, ageing insulation, or moisture that degrades cable performance.2) 4P format: suited to three-phase systems and complete disconnection of conductorsThe 4P structure is ideal for three-phase networks (3 phases + neutral), or for any configuration where phases and neutral need to be disconnected simultaneously in order to make maintenance safer and reduce the risk of voltage feedback. This more complete disconnection is often sought on circuits supplying machines, technical equipment, sub-consumer units or installations where continuity of service must remain controlled. In practice, this provides greater operating convenience: during troubleshooting, isolation from the power supply is clearer, and the circuit concerned is isolated more distinctly, which improves the safety of the person carrying out the work, in accordance with good practice and local requirements.3) Main characteristics: 50 A, 230–400 V AC, 50/60 Hz, 6 kA breaking capacityDesigned for common distribution applications, this model has a rated current of 50 A, suitable for outgoing ways whose operating current remains within this range, provided that conductor sizing, the nature of the loads and the installation method are consistent. It is rated for use at 230 to 400 V AC and 50–60 Hz, covering the most common electrical environments in Europe. Its 6 kA breaking capacity corresponds to a level usually suited to final circuits and consumer unit outgoing ways. For installation points closer to a source with high short-circuit power (main incomer, near transformer), it is recommended to check the prospective short-circuit current of the installation and adjust the equipment selection accordingly.4) C tripping curve: greater tolerance to inrush currentsThe C curve is a versatile choice, valued when circuits supply mixed loads: lighting, sockets, supply of small motors or equipment with inrush current (pump, fan, compressor, tools, etc.). Compared with a B curve, it generally offers better resistance to transient peaks at start-up, limiting nuisance tripping while maintaining effective fault protection. This makes it a consistent solution for heavily loaded domestic consumer units, small commercial installations or workshop outgoing ways where the aim is to combine safety and continuity of operation of the equipment.5) EN 61009 compliance and recommendations for use (installation and testing)This RCBO is stated to comply with EN 61009, a common European standard for devices combining residual current protection and overcurrent protection (RCBO or residual current circuit breaker with overcurrent protection depending on the configuration). For reliable integration into a consumer unit, 4-pole wiring must be carried out properly (conductor identification, neutral management, tightening torque, connection order), in accordance with professional practice and the regulatory requirements applicable on site. It is advisable to have the device installed by a qualified electrician. Finally, as with any residual current device, periodic testing via the test button (according to operating procedures) helps ensure that the residual current function remains operational, particularly in higher-risk areas: kitchen, bathroom, utility room, basement, plant rooms, sheltered outdoor areas, workshops and damp environments where insulation faults may occur more frequently.
