Spanner and socket set buying guide
Spanners and socket sets are essential to any tool kit. Often made of chrome vanadium, tools like open-ended spanners, socket wrenches and ratchet spanners all come in different sizes while adjustable spanners offer a range of sizes in one tool. Read on to find the right tool type for your nuts or bolts!
Américaine de Construction d'Outillage à Main" was founded in Paris in 1918 by an engineer, Louis Mosés. This entrepreneur manufactured a spanner, the "Lachèze", specially curved for laying railway tracks. Mosés named it "Key 101". FACOM diversified into hand tools, industrial maintenance, car repairs and aeronautics.
Since 2006, FACOM has been a subsidiary of Stanley Black & Decker, where it is the Premium brand of the group's IAR (automotive repair) division. It employs 370 people and has a turnover in excess of €150 million. It manufactures all kinds of tools, including Torx, flat, multi-socket, chain and ratchet spanners - its core business - as well as impact spanners and sockets, screwdrivers, jacks and even power tools.
FACOM has remained true to its entrepreneurial roots by supporting Team SLR, created in 2011 by Sébastien Loeb and Dominique Heintz, to help young racing drivers take part in F1 Grand Prix events such as the Porsche Carrera Cup and the FFSA French GT Championship.
