Description

General description

The Faithfull Countryman Turfing Iron is a specialist tool designed for lifting turf. It features a flat heart-shaped blade positioned at an angle to the long handle, allowing it to be pushed along the ground under each cut turf. By using a back-and-forth motion, the blade cuts through soil and roots, producing a smooth surface for reusing turf elsewhere. Made from heat-treated carbon steel, this tool offers strength and durability, while its powder-coated finish enhances resistance to rust, scratches, humidity, and soil alkaloids. The ergonomically designed T-grip handle, crafted from European ash sourced from FSC® sustainable resources, is lacquered for weather protection and reduces fatigue and back strain during use.

Found it easier to water the grass well, leave to soak then cut grass in to squares, before using turfing iron.....once the first piece is up, it’s really quite easy.....& very satisfying too! Not so good for the worms though!

Easy to use and a useful garden tool that saves time when moving turf for use in another area of the garden.

turfing iron. brilliant tool if used correctly. as a experienced person working in the ground care industry. greenkeeper you use these tools every day. but please note when used for first time. they are spread with a Teflon coating. firstly grind off the coating with a grinder top and under neath then sharpen the edges this will make less work for you and it will slice cleaner through the root of the turf. plus you won't get blisters on your palm of your hands so much as when you use it. .it's a brilliant tool for garden work and makes every turf job a lot cleaner. and tidy. I would recommend a turing iron. brilliant bit of kit. happy oh one thing invest in a edging iron and do the the same use grinder to take off Teflon coating. sharpen edge. thank you.

The one problem is the blade is too blunt to cut through slightly "tough soil". The blade is approx 3mm deep at the edge and required angle grinding to make it possible to cut under the turf. I assume it would be OK for light sandy or peaty soil. I recommend it providing the intended user is aware of this limitation

Great tool lifts turf so much easier than ordinary spade, very pleased and would recommend to anyone, good price too!

My one small criticism is that the heavy pointed steel tip of the blade was not adequately protected in the packaging. The rest of the product was wrapped securely in bubble wrap and secured with many metres of parcel tap but the sharp tip has penetrated the wrapping resulting in the stove enamelled coating at the tip being chipped off so that it will inevitably rust.
