Visit the STIHL storeStihl is a German manufacturer of cultivation and land-clearing equipment, in particular chainsaws, which was founded in 1926 by Andreas Stihl. At the time, Andreas Stihl was an acknowledged specialist in the production of chainsaws, having invented the first electric chainsaw in 1925 and the first diesel chainsaw in 1929. In 1931, the company began exporting its hand-held power tools, so much so that by 1971 production had reached 340,000 units/year. The company went on to produce chainsaws, shredders, lawnmowers, brush cutters, hedge trimmers, etc., and in 1984 the French subsidiary was created.
By 2006, the average workforce had risen to almost 10,000, with headquarters in Waiblingen. The company is still family-owned, with descendants at the head of the multinational. Since its creation, Stihl has enjoyed an image of excellence among forestry professionals.
Today, Stihl is clearly a multi-specialist in garden tools.
