    GARDENAVisit the GARDENA store
Gardena is a German company based in Ulm, Germany. It was founded in 1961 by Eberhard Kastner and Werner Kress. They began by importing French products before developing their own technology. Their success began with the Gardena System (1968), which became a classic for its appearance (orange) and modularity. In 1973, innovation continued with small cordless power tools, the combi-system (interchangeable handle), which was adopted by other brands, and the first sprinkler with memory. But it also enjoyed success with more advanced technologies, such as the lithium-ion batteries in 1990, which were compatible with many of its products. Today, Gardena is clearly a top-of-the-range brand when it comes to garden tools (mainly soil cultivation with its edgers) and, more particularly, intelligent water management. Gardena has also recently developed washing kits. As a result, Gardena has become the benchmark brand for gardening equipment in 80 countries, generating sales of over €400 million. In 2007, Gardena was acquired by gardening heavyweight Husqvarna. Gardena is also very involved in sustainable development, notably with the FSC certificate guaranteeing that the wood used comes from forests managed in an eco-responsible manner. Similarly, solvent-based lacquers have been replaced by water-based lacquers: Gardena uses 50% less lacquer than required by European VOC regulations.
