The bench grinder is an essential tool for the handyman, allowing them to sharpen their tools, grind and polish them. At the end of the bench grinder, near the motor, is the grinding wheel. This part is the most important of the bench grinder. Without it, the blades of your chainsaw or any other DIY device would not be as sharp.
Grinding wheels are made of abrasive grains (aluminum oxide, silicon carbide, or diamond powder) that are held together by a binder and separated by pores. They come in two types: fine grain wheels and coarse grain wheels. The choice of wheel depends on its use: occasional or more intense. A 125 mm bench grinding wheel is sufficient for individuals, while for professionals, a larger size wheel (150 mm, 200 mm, 250 mm) is more suitable. Furthermore, the colors of the wheels indicate their capability. Grey wheels are standard, white wheels are for sharpening cutting tools, scissors, and plane irons, while green wheels are used for grinding bits and blades. Installing them in the bench grinder is easy and quick due to their small size and light weight.
