Swimming pool lighting is a key element in the design of outdoor space. It allows us to combine the useful with the pleasant. Useful, it ensures the safety of users by marking the perimeter around the pool. Pleasant, it comes in different colors and animation possibilities. A good choice of pool lighting allows us to enjoy even more advantages.
Selecting adequate pool lighting is based on a few criteria. The type of pool to equip is particularly decisive.
- For a above-ground pool with soft, self-supporting, or inflatable walls, which is only installed in the garden during the beautiful season, a few floating lamps may be sufficient for lighting. They are less expensive and can be easily removed when summer ends;
- For a rigid above-ground pool, made of steel or wood, the pool can be illuminated by submerged or non-submerged spotlights;
- For an in-ground pool, the choice is wide between projectors, floating lamps, recessed pool spots, or LED strips.
LED lighting is particularly effective for illuminating the pool. It emits an intense light without consuming much electricity. Very economical, it is suitable for both in-water and out-of-water lighting. Additionally, it comes in various forms and colors. Some LED lights even feature animations, which is ideal for creating a pleasant atmosphere during beautiful summer evenings.
For comfortable use, remote controls are offered. Thus, it is possible to play with the colors from your veranda.
Safety standards exist for pool lighting. Marking the pool perimeter prevents bathers from tripping or even slipping and injuring themselves. Similarly, caution must be exercised when water and electricity mix.
- The C15-100 standard section 702 specifies all the requirements regarding electrical installation in pools, swimming pools, and footbaths.
- The C15-700 standard highlights the allowed voltage level in a pool. A low voltage of 12 V AC and 30 V DC is recommended.
These standards are displayed on the bulb and/or its packaging with the Kelvin index, lumen, base, and all other information on the light fixture.
